Type Locality and Naming

Northeast Liaoning. The Guanmenshan Fm was named by the No.9 Party of Geology, Liaoning Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1989. The type section is at Wuchong in Shangnianmazhou, Fushun County, Liaoning Province. It is the upper formation of the Sanchazi Gr.

Lithology and Thickness

The Guanmenshan Fm is a set of neritic-littoral carbonate rock sediments. It is totally composed of dolomite. Lower part consists of medium- to thick-bedded fine-crystalline dolomite. Middle part is medium- to thick-bedded, laminated (banded) fine- crystalline dolomite and pisolitic dolomite. Upper part is psephitic and psammitic dolomite Laterally, it is stable in lithological character, but changeable greatly in thickness. It is up to 1437 m in Kangzhuangzi-Guanmenshan area, Kaiyuan County.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is resting conformably on the underlying Kangzhuangzi Fm (the middle formation of the Sanchazi Gr).

Upper contact

Conformably overlain by the Tongjiajie Fm (lowest formation of Shuyatun Gr.)

Regional extent

Northeast Liaoning. It is widely distributed in the Fanhe River area.

Fossils

The representative elements of stromatolites are Confusoconophyton cf. multiangulum, Conophyton cylindricum, Jacutophyton f., etc.
